I Need More Affection Than You Know
Grass, Trees, and Shrubbery...
It gave the sensation of home to Orchid. Reminding him of the many trips into Viridian Forest. The thing that would quickly snatch him from his fancies and bring him back to reality was...well...everything. The trees were not quite the same, but they were just as lovely. The grass crunched differently beneath his feet. Even every turn of the path in the Jungle would be a disappointment as instead of seeing the nearest Bug Catcher, there would be an array of vines or moist marsh pond that would be deterring him to go elsewhere.
Well...it was a jungle after all.
Deep down he knew this land was not the same and he would not find a shred of familiarity. Even now, he had been guided by a Pokemon that was not one of his preferred type. The fuzzy ears and face of the Buneary that would look back and look to him would stare at him. It was as if she was reading his mind with the blank expression on his face made it seem like he was either hypnotized and walking in a sheepish state as if sleepwalking. He would swallow that lump in his throat, guilty of a vulnerable moment, and looked to the Buneary who folded her little arms waiting for the next excuse.
“S-sorry,” his eyes shifted to the Pokemon before going back to the path, “Just...thinking about...somewhere.”
The Buneary did not seem to register...not that anyone would. Still, he would push on, head shaking the rest of his hesitance away and walking deeper into the woods. “Let us go, Bun-chan! You cannot just stand around doing nothing!.” He would say it in such a passive and blaming way that would make the bunny drop her little jaw as if she was seeing another one of his personalities come out. One minute he was withdrawn, the next, so fed-up, and now acting high and mighty!
Still, even so, she would follow. The mystery would wait for later. The rabbit felt scrappy!

I Need More Affection Than You Know
“What..is that?”
Orchid had been tired of saying that by now just as much as the rabbit Pokemon near his feet was tired of hearing it. The Buneary rushed from Orchid’s ankle’s and stood before him just as the green-pale grass-type Pokemon did. The rabbit thrusting out its little paw. The eyes of the violet haired boy following along with the movement of his hand that reached for his pocket. “W-wait! H-hold on Bun-chan!” He had uttered pointing the device to the Pokemon, “I have this now.”
The Cell Phone upgrade was essential in this region it seen. With Orchid not being able to tell one from the next Pokemon that appeared previously, he was forced to use the Phone App in order to help him identify Pokemon. He had learned a great deal of information he would ever admit to not knowing as he pointed and scanned the creatures: one was that he had no idea that the Buneary traveling with him was a special variation because of its color. Then, there was the Pokemon before him that was the most unusual since he had been here.
“That is a Grass-Type?!” He screeched with a lift of his brow, “...and its color is off too...like you?”
“OH!” World famous words spilling from the boy’s mouth as he realized his slow uptake, “It is a rare one!”
Orchid’s mind flooded with so many questions that he wished to ask: What made the pigments of color change that had to do with its physiology? What type of attacks did it learn? What was its proceeding stages and how could it benefit to chemistry and medicine? Before Orchid even knew it, his eyes was looking at the little Pokemon that was starting to slowly wander off, ignoring him, as it had turned to traverse into the woods. His eyes perking up as he finally sprung into action.
“W-wait!” The violet haired boy screeched, “Bun-chan! Cut it off!”
So the pursuit was on…
Buneary was perfect for the job! With a smug look on its face, the rabbit Pokemon had quickly zipped forth, kicking off one tree to the next as it had rocketed itself over the shrubbery and landed right before the path of Formantis. The small mantis Pokemon was stopped in its tracks only because of the quick movements of the bunny and Orchid who parted the shrubbery to blocked it in from behind. With the field set, Formantis would be forced into a confrontation.
“Bun-chan! Use Power-Up Punch on it!” The Rabbit Pokemon loved the sound of that command. It wasted no time as it would lift one paw, pounding it into the other to make it glow with a brimming, hot white. With one spring of its step, the rabbit Pokemon springed forward with a powerful step, the usual tactic. With a quick swing of its paw, the Pokemon would have its paw strike the cheek of the Formantis who stood there as if it was a kiss. The Grass-type’s gaze would go to bunny as it would cut sharply as if it would cause damage from the stare alone.
“I-It is...pretty tough…” A sudden bad feeling playing on Hikari’s thoughts, “Bun-chan, quick! Another Power-Up Punch!”
As the Buneary would lift its paw to throw another strike, it was met with resistance that should have not became surprise. The mantis Pokemon’s own little arm lifted quickly and precisely. A swift bat of the Buneary’s paw away caused it to parry and raise the other arm that was like a sharp sickle. It was then, at that very moment, Orchid knew that he f-....err...messed up.
“Bun-chan! Quick!” Orchid cried, “Parry it with Power-Up Punch!”
With a loud battle cry, the bunny Pokemon had begun to whip its arm back out, aiming to strike the arm of the mantis Pokemon that started to exchange a myriad of blows between itself and Buneary. The movements were swift and each impact made a loud clap as one would parry the next blow and counter. The end result was unpredictable, until Formantis would cut its eyes once again and swing its arm decisively to throw another Leaf Blade that swept lower than usual.
“Bun-chan!”
The Formantis made a clean swipe of its Leaf Blade that had Buneary stumbling back. The Bunny Pokemon had been pressed into the position to kneel as the Formantis wasted no time stepping forth, slowly and gracefully as if the rabbit Pokemon’s staggering was trivial. It was confident and passive, much to Orchid’s surprise. Even now, it lifted its arm decisively conjuring another Leaf Blade as if it readied to make one last strike.
“Bun-chan!” The mantis Pokemon swung its arm as if it was guillotine coming down upon the Buneary, “Bounce now!”
The timing was crucial!
One leap would send the Buneary leaping atop the head of the Formantis. The other leap would sending it springing skyward as the Formantis would stumble forth unexpectedly. The Pokemon barely had time to consider what had happened, and by the time it did, it had been too late. The Buneary had kicked its feet over its head, revolving its body as it repositioned its form within mid-air. With one spiral of its arms going side to side, the Pokemon had begun revolving before diving down full speed. The Formantis, however swift, would make its arm glow green attempting to ready itself to intercept as it turned its body.
...or that was the plan.
BOOM!!!
The turn was too late! The Formantis had not the change to put its guard up and recover from the previous last moment tactic from the Buneary using it as a makeshift trampoline. The Pokemon was dazed and body was feeling shocked from the sudden full-on diving collision of the rabbit that had pinned it and then leapt backward to land on its feet. The Buneary would give one more cry!
The rest was up to Orchid.
“R-right!”
Orchid would take a Pokeball from his satchel pouch that hugged the body kis kimono. With a single touch it expanded readily for what was to come next. The young boy would send the ball flying forth as he would toss it at the mantis Pokemon.
“Pokeball! fly!~”

I Need More Affection Than You Know
No sooner did Orchid walk over to pick up the Pokeball, he had heard the sound of grass being crunched and barks being split. It was funny that he recognized these things, but that would come later. The only sound that Orchid could focus on was something that was reminiscent of a beast making its way over to a helpless animal; and he was surely a vulnerable little thing at this moment. His enthusiasm for getting to know more about the Grass Pokemon had been placed in the back of his mind. His hand reaching and shuffling around to grab one of the Potions that had in his stock.
“Bun-chan! Come here!” The command so sudden that the Buneary was authentically curious to see what the violet haired boy was up to, even as the silhouette in the bushes had raced towards him. “Whatever is heading this way, it sounds mean.” Orchid would sum it up nicely, taking out a potion and pressing it into his grasp. The violet haired boy would reach another hand to Buneary and brushing over its fur to see any bruises that were present. The obvious one on its little chest where the mantis had cut into. He would begin to spray as carefully as possible, eyes set upon the emergence of the shadow from the bushes...and a terrible screeching would begin!
“S-seriously?!”
The stag beetle was the least expected, and he would admit that.
As the Pinsir would emerge, roaring aloud, Orchid would be pressed for changing his strategy. A native Pokemon of Kanto, he knew the species well and just what they could do. Confident, he had found his hand moving instinctively to his lap as he grasped the Pokeball for Buneary and grasped the next. “Bun-chan, rest for a moment. I will need you when we try to leave.” The Pokeball would strike its beam on the bunny Pokemon. With an open and shut after its form vanished into the ball, Orchid would toss out one Pokeball with a slightly hesitant frown upon his face.
“Toggie-kun! Go!”
The moment the Egg Pokemon would appear, it would have that usual smug look upon its face. The Pinsir, an aggressive one, had reacted the only way it knew how. Its eyes becoming ferocious as it let out another roar! However, it was slightly different. An aura appearing over it as it seemed to be brimming with an energy that almost became visible.
“It focused...so we have to be careful.” The boy would warrant before looking to the Togepi. His own Phone appearing in hand as he pointed to the Togepi in order to analyze it. His knowledge of any Pokemon besides the Grass-Type was still showing as he was hesitant to make a move. “Toggie-kun, use your Ancient Power!” An attack the Pokemon knew well as it would move its hands once again. The boulders it was so fond of lifting slowly as they broke away from the terrain and floated about with the consistent control of the little Egg Pokemon. With one sweep of its hands, the Togepi sent the boulders hurtling towards the stag beetle.
The Bug Pokemon was bombarded by the rocks that were giving it difficulty, but still it seemed to urge itself forth as it charged straight through the attack, willingly taking damage. “What?!” The violet haired boy watched helplessly as the Stag Beetle had quickly lunged forth and tossed its large horns on its head in a swift swing. A quick clamp of them would allow it to cut the Togepi swiftly. “Toggie-kun!” The Pokemon would take damage from the cutting attack, and it would stagger almost ready to fall over.
“It must have taken a critical hit from that X-Scissor, but...something is off.”
The Togepi, even if damaged, still had the strength to stand. Its eyes would go to the Pinsir as it seemed ready to fight still. It was incredible that it still had the strength to stand, and suddenly would becoming brimming with energy. “This happened before.” Orchid had recalled, “When it was fighting with Buneary. Ancient Power is increasing its stats so easily, and I am guessing this is why.” Orchid would look to the phone finally realizing that the Pokemon had a peculiar ability.
“Serene Grace activated and protected it by boosting the rate of Ancient Power.” Orchid would press his lips. The situation was still desperate. “But...w-what to do next?”
As if Orchid needed an answer, the Togepi gave one in the strangest way. His eyes would watch as the Pokemon begun to glow brightly with an aura that swept over its body. The wild Pinsir was even brought to a sudden halt, its foot drawing back as if suddenly in fear. It would only last so long as it would tense up, its horns lowering gradually as if preparing for the next attack. The Togepi, however, stood as if it still had a scheme.
“I know this.” He gasped, “It is Baton Pass!”
The violet haired boy would draw the next Pokeball from his sleeve. As usual, there was one particular Pokemon that he knew would be able to turn the situation around. He clutched the Pokeball and then cast his arm back, giving it a toss. “Toggie-kun! Now!” the Egg Pokemon would turn around and complying as it raised its arms. Its body would turn into the pure glowing energy before surging forth, colliding with the other energy that came from the ball.
The Pinsir would not wait however.
The Pokemon charged forth before the Pokemon that was emerging from the Pokeball even had the chance to materialize. Its feet would pound the terrain like a mad bull rather than a bug. Its pincers glowing as it prepared for another X-Scissor strike. Orchid knew well what to do knowing the Pokemon and how to react.
“BunBun! Quick-Attack! Now!”
Brimming white hot and not even completely formed, the silhouette would quickly raced forth and curve in an upward sweep as it struck the Pinsir from below, avoiding the attack all at once. Pinsir was sent tumbling back, reeling as it landed on its backside and fallen over. The Pokemon, white form, landing, would finally form completely as Buneary chimed happily with a chant. Its body would turn around, battle ready, as if to say that the initial attack was simply a warm up.
“BunBun-chan! You know what to do!” Strangely, Orchid would see the Pokemon turn and reply with a nod of certainty. Sassy, it would spin on its foot as the Pinsir recovered. The Stag Beetle Pokemon would start to change the hue of its horns from green to brown. Brimming with the new energy, the attack changed to Brick Break. The Pinsir, who had stumbled before, seemed to be damaged, but not as much as he thought. The violet haired boy became quite uneasy just staring at it.
“If Bun-chan is hit with that, it is over for her.” His eyes sweeping over the environment, “But fortunately, I have the advantage here.”
The Buneary’s wound healed nicely with the potion and the Grassy Terrain, two things this he used to his advantage. The violet haired boy knew Pinsir was using the same environment, but the damage was mounting. The boy would watch as the stag beetle rushed towards Buneary. “Now, Bounce!” The Pokemon would act quickly, leaping into the air as the Pinsir swept its claws attempting to snatch the Bunny. It narrowly missed, its head reeling as it was thrown off balance. The Bunny Pokemon dropping from above, would quickly come down with a stamping foot that would strike the Pinsir would take damage and be frozen in place from the sudden shock.
“BunBun-chan! It’s paralyzed!” Orchid cried aloud. “Use Quick-Attack while it can’t move!”
The rabbit Pokemon would quickly turn after its previous attack. Readily, tenacious, it would kick off with all its might as it charged towards the Pinsir’s exposed backside. With a crash, the rabbit Pokemon would go down with the Pinsir, crashing with the terrain as it would be tossed to the ground face-first. An explosive impact would would blow over the field, making dust cloud around both of them. It would fall slowly, surely, revealing the bunny standing atop of the toppled Pinsir that was groaning.
“You did great!”
The violet haired boy was more happy about this than he was used to. He would clasp his hand over his mouth, shocked by his own joy over a victory. “O-oh...s-sorry.” His cheeks flushed red as the Buneary would slide off the toppled Bug Pokemon and approached the boy. The little Pokemon was amused by Orchid’s expression, showing a smug smile to see the trainer so elated. “E-eh...w-we should go before...t-that guy wakes up.” The violet haired boy would suggest as he started to jog away from the scene quickly.
Really, he was trying to escape the embarrassment more than the Pokemon.

I Need More Affection Than You Know
“A Bellsprout?!”
Joy was an understatement at this point! Orchid loved every bit of what he was seeing! The bell-shaped head, the brown roots, and even the wide mouth with pink lips. The Pokemon stopped him in his tracks as he reminisced about the Pokemon from Kanto! It was native to Celadon especially. Always lurking on the outsides of town, the Grass-Pokemon seemed to be common as a Rattata near the outskirts of Pallet Town. Grabbing a Pokeball from his sleeve, the violet haired boy would whisk out the Pokemon inside without a second thought.
“Owl-san! Let us go!”
The Pokeball would burst open revealing the Owl Pokemon as it would fly skyward. “Use Nasty Plot to come up with an idea!” Orchid would issue his command causing for the Owl Pokemon’s gaze to sharpen. A plot brewing, it had watched Bellsprout seemingly...grow? The Pokemon dug its roots into the ground. Each tendril branching into the soul for the moment as it drew in nutrients that would increase the Pokemon’s bulk as the vines and leaves grew larger and thicker.
“It is using Growth.” Orchid would frown realizing this. The Pokemon certainly was not one to waste its time to be idle. “Owl-san! Use Ominous Wind to stop it!” The Rowlet that would hear Orchid’s commands would toss its wings forth and beat them wildly. It would use its signature attack to send a horrid gust blowing forth to pummel the plant Pokemon. Bellsprout had responded as its roots were torn from the soil. Tempered, the grass-type Pokemon would reach its roots from the ground and raise them in a threatening manner. The Bellsprout’s head would pull back its vines and start to thrust them out extending. A purple hue on the edge of the vines would thrust outward striking the Rowlet suddenly.
“Poison Jab? That could be dangerous.” Orchid observed remembering that the Pokemon had quite a few poison-type attacks. As Rowlet would be struck on its rounded chest from the vine, the Pokemon would attempt to stay airborne and out of view of the Bellsprout. The distance it would acquire would be minor as it turned around and flew about trying to stay away from the Grass-Pokemon and its vines. “Owl-san! Use Ominous Wind to keep away Bellsprout!”
Try as it might, the Owl would respond, constantly beating its wings and blowing a powerful breeze towards the Grass Pokemon. The Bellsprout, however, was relentless. It would alternate between keeping some of its vines planted and extending the rest. It was only when that the Owl had gotten more than fifteen yards out of range that it found itself away from the Grass-Pokemon. That would be struck by the bombarding breeze that it blew as it flew away...but there was a punishment.
“Owl-san!” The Bellsprout made one more strike with its tendrils again. One that stuck as the Rowlet would sit idly still. Its body hard to move due to the second Poison-type attack and a sickening feeling radiating through its body. “Poison!” Orchid knew that reaction unlike any other. The violet haired boy would reach out to his sleeve, taking another Pokeball as he would grasp it tightly. However, he had a solution!
“Owl-san!” Orchid would cry holding out the Pokeball, “Pass on your strength! Use Baton Pass!”
The Owl Pokemon would see the ball and respond in kind. With its little wings raising, the Rowlet would seep a colorful green aura. With one toss, Orchid would cast the Pokeball into the air as it would open. The Owl Pokemon raced in a partial energy form, crashing into the other released Pokemon and retreating into its Pokeball. The other Pokemon, landing before the Bellsprout, would stand tall as it looked to the Bellsprout. Its brown fur glistening as it would call out happily.
“Eve-chan! Quick!” The Bellsprout and reached its vines to the Eevee as it would curl them around the body of the Eevee. It was surrounded suddenly and gripped by the vines as if it had come into a trap. However, Orchid knew that would be a matter that would not matter for long. “Unleash Stored Power!” Eevee would hear the cry of Orchid and open its mouth. Its little roar would ring throughout the area as a burst of pink energy would emit around its form, and then burst outward in a vast explosive energy that it concentrated until it was a beam towards the Bellsprout. The Grass-Type Pokemon would take the full brunt of the force as its vines uncurled from around the Eevee, the roots would be snatched from the land, and its form flung into the nearby tree as it would subdued and helpless.
“So strong…” Orchid was astonished by the Eevee’s strength...or rather the combined strength. His eyes swept, thinking about the Rowlet that was in battle. “...Nasty Plot boosted Eevee’s strength when it was passed on, and Stored Power increased, too?” It was an interesting set of Pokemon now that Orchid thought about it.
However, thinking would have to wait. The Eevee had approached Orchid as it would chime and look up to him. The eyes of the violet haired boy would go to where the tree was where the Bellsprout had been knocked towards. His wide blue eyes became even wider from shock as his mouth hung agape. “Nyaaaaa! The Bellsprout!” He had cooed as he realized the Pokemon had most likely awaken and ran away, “This is terrible! I-I wanted it!” He had cried aloud.
Sulky...cry...the Pokemon was no where nearby. He looked about the tree, only to see nothing around the area. With a sigh of breath, Orchid walked on slumping, leaving the woods, but knowing he would not forget this anytime soon. He would have to just try again another day.
