When making your character, you have a rather important choice you'll have to make; namely, what your character will actually be as they go through their journey as a Pokemon Trainer. You have six choices in this regard each one with their own bonuses.
Battler: When one thinks of the term "Pokemon Trainer", this is often what comes to mind, though they are merely one facet of trainers as a whole. These are the ones who go about capturing and battling with their Pokemon, aiming to raise a team of powerful allies. They understand the finer points of battling that are lost on those who view battling as little more than "forcing animals to fight each other", and know how to bring out the best in their Pokemon.
Bonus: When a Battlers make use of the Training Grounds, their Pokemon gain two points of EXP per session, instead of just one.
Coordinator: This is an option for those who still want to be a Pokemon Trainer, but don't like the idea of having them battle against other Pokemon. Instead, they participate in Pokemon Contests, which involve showing off moves in creative and inventive ways, rather than facing off against an opponent.
Bonus: Coordinators have a sense of aesthetics that gives them a natural edge when performing in contests. Not only will these trainers always receive a bonus of three points during contests (on top of whatever else the judges score them), but they also have an increased chance of finding Shiny Pokemon (who universally have a chance of also gaining bonus points) in the wild.
Breeder: Like Coordinators, Breeders put their focus into places other than battling. Instead, they focus more on raising and breeding Pokemon, and can even open shops to sell extra Eggs/Pokemon if they so wish. They don't have a specific goal to work towards like a Battler or a Coordinator, but the ability to breed and sell Eggs means that, if they play their cards right, a Breeder has the potential to make quite a bit of money.
Bonus: Making the most of their talents and expertise, breeders are able to use the Breeding Center twice a week, whereas everyone else can only use it once a week. Additionally, Pokemon hatched from Eggs bred by a Breeder may have an Egg Move by default, and Breeders also have a small chance of producing two Eggs in a single breeding session.
Pokemon Ranger: Often shortened to just "Rangers", this organization is quite prominent throughout the Midori Region, having a branch in every major town and city. Although their training largely focuses on dealing with issues in the wild (rampaging Pokemon, poachers, etc), they also aid the police when dealing Pokemon-related crimes within city walls as well.
Bonus: Rangers are well versed in exploring Midori's various areas allowing them to find and interact with a fourth Pokemon in their catch threads. Not only that but one of the four Pokemon they come across will be holding a berry or other item. If a Pokemon would naturally have a chance of holding an item in the wild (ie Magnemite and a Metal Coat), the Pokemon will have 100% to be holding said item. It a Pokemon does not naturally have a chance to be holding an item, a random berry will be rolled instead.
Civilian: Not everyone is out to be the best. Some people simply like to live their lives and not worry thing like catching and battling Pokemon. This isn't to say that they don't occasionally indulge in a battle or a contest here and there; they just don't dedicate all of their time training for it like a Battler or a Coordinator would.
Bonus: Unlike the other classes, Civilians don't get any lasting bonuses when it comes to training or battling with Pokemon. They do however, get a significant starting bonus in that one of their two starters will be allowed to be fully-evolved. All other rules for choosing one's starter will still apply, meaning no uncommon or rare Pokemon.
Pokemon League: This is a trainer class that covers both Gym Leaders and the Elite Four, as well as any Gym Leader Apprentices. The Professor and their assistant(s) are also considered part of the League. It goes without saying that they are all held in a high regard, and they are often called upon to aid the Region and its citizens in times of need. Each member may only play one character who is a Gym Leader or Gym Leader Apprentice. More details about how to apply for one of these characters can be found here.
Bonus: Due to specializing in a specific Type, members of this class know what to look for when searching for wild Pokemon of that same Type. In other words, if they specify in their opening post that they're actively searching for them, there's an increased chance that they'll encounter wild Pokemon of the Type they specialize in (of course, for reasons that are hopefully obvious, this only applies when that specific Type appears in the area in the first place). In the case of the Professor and their assistant(s), they may simply choose which type.
Furthermore, their specialization in specific types allows them to gain extra experience when training their specified type. Any time a Pokemon of their specialized type would gain exp from battle (PvE or PvP), they gain one extra exp. For the Professor and their assistants, they may declare a type at the beginning of their threads to specify a single type that will gain the bonus exp.
Changing Classes We get it. Sometimes you make a character and plots take you in a direction that makes you think they might be more suited for a different walk of life. A breeder sees a life-changing Contest performance and decides to focus on coordinating, a battler who's searching for something to do in life and sees a recruitment poster and decides to enlist as a Pokemon Ranger, or someone simply doesn't feel up to doing what they were doing before and wishes to settle down.
Of course, it's quite not that simple. This isn't like Final Fantasy V/Tactics where you can just go into a menu and immediately switch from one Job to another. There are some steps and requirements to be met before you can do this.
1) You must have at least 50 posts on the character whose class you wish to change. Once you've reached that amount, make a post <insert link> to state what class you wish to change into and an IC character reason for your character wanting to switch to that particular class. While not required, a link to any threads where they show interest in something related to the new class will definitely help your case.
2) A mod will then check the post and, if you meet the requirement the reason seems legit, we'll approve the change. However, keep in mind that once this change goes through, you will no longer gain whatever bonus was granted to you from your previous class. Additionally, because your character will need some time to adjust and fully get into their new role, you won't gain the bonus of your new class for two weeks.
3) Last but not least, you may only do this once per character, and you may not go back to your previous class later on. Once that single use has been used up, then I'm afraid you'll be S.O.L. if you find yourself wanting to change to something else or go back to what you were before.
