Night had fallen a long time ago, but that didn't stop Anthea from venturing deep into the jungle. She took cautious steps, lantern held out in front of her and eyes on the ground to avoid tripping over anything, not focusing too much on anything farther ahead than she could illuminate. She was mostly relying on memory for direction, but as it turned out, her memory was quite good. She looked up as the dense foliage of the jungle started to clear, and as the strange feeling of something supernatural in the air grew, and found herself looking at the edge of the ruins deep in the jungle. "Hello. I've returned," she said to no one in particular, steadily making her way through the rest of the jungle path and into the ruins proper.
What would it be tonight? A new discovery? A strange encounter? Another companion? Or just a peaceful night alone in the heart of a haunted jungle?

As it turned out, there was someone around to greet her, in a sense. One of many wild Pokemon who roamed the area was still up and wandering about. Not that the Pokemon of Aloe City ruins being up late was unusual, but this one wasn't one of the usual faces. Rather than a ghost Pokemon, it was a fox, an ordinary Fennekin. "You're a rare face," she said, approaching the fox Pokemon. "How would you like to be a witch's familiar? Or perhaps a witch yourself, hmm?"
She removed one of her pokeballs from her purse, setting it on the ground and allowing her Litwick to emerge from it. "We're fighting in mostly darkness," Anthea said, stepping away and covering her lantern. "You'll be at a slight disadvantage because of your candlelight, but use that to your advantage and you should have no problem."
Dumah bent slightly, as though trying to nod. His candle's flame burst to life, shining brightly for just a moment, then returning to normal as several wisps of flame broke away from it and began to move on their own. The flames drifted away, giving the impression that the Litwick himself was moving, but Dumah remained in place, waiting for the Fennekin's move. Sure enough, a wave of psychic energy broke through the steady hum of energy already present, colliding with a spot where the Litwick would be if the drifting flames were his.
"There's your opening," Anthea said, and Dumah gathered a mass of shadows around his body to fire at the Fennekin. The ball caught the small fox in its side, sending it rolling. The fox looked around as it recovered, spotting a single wisp of flame off on its own from the direction the attack had come from. Anthea sighed. Of course that trick wasn't going to work after taking a direct attack. "Try scattering the wisps, then moving with them," Anthea suggested, directing Dumah to move before he could get bombarded by psychic attacks. The first one struck the Litwick, while the next one missed as he moved, and the other wisps spread. The Fennekin was proving to be quite smart, but it would have to keep track of which flame was which to follow Dumah. "Now. And keep moving," Anthea said. From the Fennekin's perspective, another attack would come just at the moment two wisps crossed, and then split off in different directions. The Fennekin looked into the darkness after recovering from the attack, trying to decide which was which...and then looked to the sky instead. A brilliant light shone from up above, lighting up the Fennekin, Dumah, Anthea, and the area surrounding them as though daylight had come early, to just that spot in the ruins.
"Well...crap. Time to go all out, then. Finish it, Duma!" Anthea called out, and another Shadow Ball later, the Fennekin was out cold. Pulling one of her pokeballs from her purse, Anthea threw it at the downed fox.
