Static [Catching/Mod]

[Vince Moore]

on his quest to become an actual trainer vince had only just taken the first few steps towards it in the last week or so. he hadn't traveled far from his home in phlox city yet but figured it was probably better to play it safe then go hiking out to a spot that was remote and not close to home when he got tired.

and boy was he tired by the time he got to hyacinth road. vince had seen this place while travelling through the city, the large unfinished road and structures and failed dreams of the builders. he had never wanted to visit it because... well, why would he? there were no bars, no fashion malls, no cute little vendors with tasty drinks.

and yet here he was, three pokemon in tow as he wandered around the tall grass at the base of the large structure. he was able to stay mostly in the shade cast by the half-built road above but it didn't quite cool him off.

ignis was before him, walking way too fast as he looked for an opponent. behind him was terra and claves, taking their sweet old time catching up. vince was between the trio, trying to keep an eye on his overeager chimchar and make sure his dawdling pokemon didn't somehow get lost as the thick grass began to get thicker the closer they got to being under the road.

It did not take the team long to find their first challenger - by almost running the small mouse pokemon over in their trek. Dedenne was quite obviously angry about this by the way it chattered, squeaked and postured towards terra who had been the one to almost crush it underneath her heavy footfalls.

she would cast a glance at vince as if asking 'what am I supposed to do with this?' before looking down towards the pokemon who was now creating a static charge around his body, little sparks flying in his anger.

"i think it wants to battle?" vince said as ignis rushed over, yelling back at the Dedenne. "but i think it wants to battle terra, she did almost crush it after all..." he commented as the mouse pokemon would step aside and look past the chimchar, continuing his verbal assault on terra.

terra, realizing it was time to battle again sighed angrily as she stomped her feet. all around her and the battle field became a mild sandstorm, bits and pieces of sand smacking into vince and his team as well as the Dedenne.

Dedenne would roar in rage and unleash his first attack, running forward with a nuzzle. while the attack barely hurt her she found herself suddenly quite stiff, her limbs heavy and not wanting to move, little sparks of electricity would dance off her skin as she was paralyzed.

vince would curse under his breathe before ordering his next attack - a bite attack while the Dedenne was hurt by the sand flying around. while lethargic and slow to move terra was able to successfully land the attack before the little mouse pokemon jumped back - seemingly barely grazed by the attack.

he would return with a parabolic charge, the electric type attack knocking into the sturdy pokemon. it seemed that even though the surrounding area boosted his attacks the type advantage played in her favor, the attack left her undamaged.

it seemed as if both vince and terra noticed at the same time that the pokemon was unable to hurt them and a matching grin crossed both their faces. "keep using bite!" vince commanded.

terra was unable to move as the paralysis locked up her body but as her opponent unleashed a discharge at her she could only smile as the electricity didn't harm her and Dedenne was hurt by the sandstorm she had kicked up.

the next round went much the same, being unable to move as the Dedenne unleashed a charm that lowered her will to attack it - but the smile never changed as she realized she would win one way or another. be it by the sandstorm slowly chipping away at his health or by the bite she would be unable to unleash as soon as her body was free of the paralysis.

so back and forth the turns went until terra could shake the static that locked her body up and unleash a stream of attacks that would eventually weaken and defeat the Dedenne while she sustained little to no injury.

with the battle won and their opponent left defeated the team would continue on their mission to strengthen themselves. as always ignis would race ahead in hopes of being the one to find someone to battle this time instead of terra. this time he was quite lucky in that regard, finding a porygon minding its' own business within a clearing near one of the tall legs of the bridge.

of course there was no minding of anyone's business if ignis had anything to say about it. rushing forward he would unleash an ember at the pokemon who had its' back turned, landing a solid hit along the porygon's back.

a mechanical cry of pain and anger could be heard as it turned around to face whomever had been rude enough to attack it. by now vince and his other two pokemon had caught up in time to see the face off about to begin.

"you couldn't have waited?" vince said wearily as he looked at the enraged porygon. it would make some mechanical squabbling noises and suddenly ignis felt... normal. no longer fueled with the power of his inner fire as the move changed his type to normal for the duration of the battle.

shaking off the strange feeling ignis once again used ember, landing another solid hit along the pokemon's body, charring it ever so slightly.

porygon once again roared in pain and reared back before unleashing a devastating hyper beam. ignis had time to side step ever so slightly, just enough to not fully take the attack to his face. it still left him hurting and limping back towards vince, this time waiting for an order.

with porygon temporarily out of commission as it recharged from the attack vince knew this was their last shot to win. if the pokemon would unleash another hyper beam it would be game over. "ignis use ember, take advantage of how he's not able to defend or attack right now!"

ignis would do just that, unleashing two painful embers at his opponent that would drop the glitch pokemon from the sky. "good job ignis!" vince would cheer on his pokemon as the little fire type limped back towards him and crawled onto his shoulders - done for the day.

"now is a good as time as any to head home, what do you think team?" vince would ask as he shouldered the weight of his pokemon and turned on his heels to go. he was tired and it seemed as if the big battler within his party was also tired. their efforts to casually stroll home were met with a very clear stopping point as an Electrike stood in their path, growling intently as the team.

eric would shift his eyes back and forth between the pokemon and alternate paths around it when it became clear the angry pokemon wanted to battle. had they come into it's territory? had the porygon been its' friend and it was mad they knocked it out?

vince could speculate all he wanted as the Electrike stepped forward once again, growling louder. terra would look at her trainer who seemed frozen in time and space and sigh, stepping between the electric type and her trainer. "oh shit, terra good idea!" vince would call as it seemed he came to life. vince suddenly felt more confident. "alright let's start out with a sand attack. if he wants a fight we'll give him one." 

as a sandstorm was kicked up around the battlefield, buffeting the Electrike with sand. terra would dig her hoof in the sand and kick up a sand attack, right into the eyes of the Electrike who would shake his head furiously to clear his eyes.

the electrike would return the attack with a thunder wave however it would miss as the sand clouded the electric type's vision. "use bite, terra!" vince would command, seeing his opportunity to land another attack while the electrike stalled.

terra would lean in and chomp at the electrike, with her so close the electric type was able to land a quick attack successfully along the flank of terra.

"another bite, terra." vince commanded as the pair would go back and forth between biting and tackling each other until both were brought to their knees. electrick would stagger himself back to his feet despite being a breathe away from fainting.

impressed with the pokemon's moxie vince would reach into his pocket and toss a pokeball at the weak pokemon.
